The Homeless Man….
This morning I drove into Wilmington to meet my big brother Micheal Berheide at his job site..to pick up his tiller. There was a homeless man in the parking lot who asked me for a few dollars so he could get something to eat. He said he was very hungry and had not eaten for days.. I looked at him and saw tears in his eyes and just in that moment I said this could easily be me ..then my next thought was why does this have to be we have enough for everyone. I know often folks will say don’t give money to the homeless because they will use it for drugs. Sometimes that may be the case and sometimes not the case.. we can never control that…I can only give it with the intention in which it is meant to be given..yes everything is a choice. I reached into my wallet and gave him a $5 bill..thinking about how there are times when all that may be what i have in my pocket in a given week. I truly saw his reflection in me. When I gave him the money..he just stood there ..holding up his prayer hands and kept thanking me…I hope he does use it for nourishment..but within that moment I saw his light and connected and I know he saw mine….we are simply reflections and versions of one another..I believe that is an understanding for us to be here to learn at this time. With that understanding it will have the capacity to change many things…I am grateful I met him this morning…sometimes we can forget our many blessings until we come upon a version of ourselves less fortunate…perspective..
